A Touch of Blue

Good afternoon and happy Friday!

Things are currently a bit dreary here. This is seriously some of the most persistent rain that I've ever seen, I don't think it has let up since it began raining yesterday evening. But hey, if it is bringing me some sweater weather, I am A-O-K with it.

Thankfully the rain held off just long enough for me to successfully wear one of my new favourite outfits yesterday (because that is obviously the most important thing in the world). Well just barely anyways... I made it home right as the rain started to pick up, thus I was only slightly soaked by the end of the day. My lab got out obnoxiously early yesterday, so I was able to come home and make myself look a little more presentable before my apparel industry class. However it was one of those days where nothing in my closet looked appealing. My closet isn't gigantic by any means, but it is of decent size and I still felt as if I had nothing to wear. That is until this wonderful long-sleeved shirt that is in one of the most flattering shades of blue caught my eye.
I adore the subtle touch of bling with the gold buttons.
Now I hadn't worn this shirt in a very long time because I really do not like the way it hangs on me. However, I decided to remedy that problem right then and there. Determined, I began throwing on anything I could find, but low and behold nothing was turning out the way I had envisioned. When I came across this black circle skirt I was so relieved. It was exactly what I was looking for; classy, fun, and it helped me control the shirt so I no longer looked like a big, blue marshmallow.
It is probably my favourite skirt, so I don't know why I didn't think to pair it with it sooner.
From there, I struggled with which colour shoe to put with it. Shoes truly can either make or break an outfit, and of course I did not want to 'break' this outfit by carelessly throwing on a pair of shoes without a second thought. I opted for my black crocheted flats instead of my red flats. To keep with the theme of black that was now running through my outfit I added my black glasses (two-for-one deal: accessory and they help me see! HUZZAH!) and some gnarly, yet oddly fitting mustache plugs.

By the time I had completed the outfit I had just a touch of blue and I loved it. It is incredible how something as simple as an outfit can make you feel so awesome. And the most wonderful thing about it all was that it's a relatively simple outfit that I can run to whenever I'm in a rush but need to look nice.
Sassy and fierce Caitlin. Otherwise known as Beyonce Caitlin.
I was most definitely talking when this picture was taken. Oops.

Now it is your turn to SHINE! I'd love to know what your favourite colour pop is, so leave a comment or shoot me a message

Thanks for stopping by! Tata for now.

Sunday Funday. Saturday... Austin Day?

Hello lovelies!

I would like to start this off by noting how wonderful it is to come home after a long day spent in high heels and to be able to take off your shoes and simply relax with some vegan pudding, animal crackers, sunshine, and Lana Del Ray. It is marvelous.

Now then... This past Saturday was a lovely day for Jessica and I. It was full of surprises, adventures, friends, and good laughs. In short, all things that Saturdays in college should consist of. Seeing as how we had a break from marching band and football this week Jessica and I had made plans to spend the day with our good friends DJ and Mitchell. The original plan was to go to the Waco Farmers Market with each of them that morning and then head back too good ole apartment 422 to cook Italian food and have a Doctor Who marathon. However this is not exactly what happened.

We started the day out at the farmers market as planned, which was a fantastic experience. Mitchell and I climbed the old look out tower located next to the market, and the view actually wasn't too shabby.
The view of downtown from up top. Not bad Waco, not bad.
Mitchell, Jessica, and DJ as ants.
We then... explored the rest of the market and quite possibly the best thing ever happened. I FOUND VEGAN CHOCOLATE CHIP COOKIES! This might not seem like a big deal, but to me it was huge because it was the first time I found cookies I didn't have to make myself. And holy nonsense they were to die for. If any of you Waco dwellers are looking for some good gluten- free or vegan treats check out Vanilla Bean Bake Shoppe. They are at the farmers market every Saturday and Monday- Friday they are located in a parking lot on the corner of 5th and Franklin. It might be 6th and Franklin... I'm not sure. I have not yet made the trek to locate their food truck, but when I do, I will be sure to let you know.

From there... Mitchell, Jessica, and I all loaded up in Mitch's tank (DJ had to go do homework... priorities) and just spontaneously drove to Austin. With good jams we made it to Austin and got our grub on at Mellow Mushroom Pizza. My personal favourite pizza place.
We got a spinach pizza with vegan cheese (daiya). I would recommend this pie any day.
Mitchell got an entire pepperoni pizza to himself. *slow clap*
Next Stop... was La Tazza Fresca where we met up with Jessica's best friend Hannah and her man friend Jimmy. Most opted for the Turkish coffee, which was interesting, but delicious nevertheless, while Hannah and I went for classic chai tea lattes. Probably my favourite aspect about this place was that they offered almond milk as well as soy, which was refreshing for an almond milk lover like myself.
I also liked the fact that the drinks were served in actual mugs.
After some... wonderfully stimulating conversation on the Lord of the Rings, we parted ways with Jimmy and Hannah and found our way to REI and Whole Foods. The fact that Waco lacks a Whole Foods (or just vegan friendly stores in general) is one of its biggest downfalls in my book. However it helps my wallet out a bit, which as a college student is always a good thing. Regardless, we got to do a little shopping in Whole Foods which was an absolute delight. My favourite acquisition was this scrumptious organic coconut chocolate bar. I finished it off faster than I would like to admit... but hey, it was worth every bite.

The ride home... was a little bit quieter because we were pooped and it consisted of a little bit of car sickness on my part. OH! But we did decide to try our best to make it to Boston for Spring Break this year. I'm keeping high hopes for this goal. I'm in need of a change of scenery like never before, and it would be lovely to cross Boston off of my list of places to visit. So next spring keep your eye out for a post on our Boston adventures. ;) Even though we didn't get to marathon Doctor Who, I still found it to be a fantastically productive day, and I could not be more happy with how it turned out.

I hope you are having a wonderful Wednesday! Until next time!

xxCaitlin.

A Snippet of Insanity

After countless bruises, several layers of sunscreen, and several close calls with heat exhaustion, we can finally say that we have completed our second pre-season week with the Baylor University Golden Wave Band (BUGWB). By no means was it easy, but it was sure worth it, and on the plus side we got some wicked tan lines. It's not often that you get to spend a whole week in 100+ degree weather with 300 equally insane people.
This post was originally intended to be published about... 3 weeks ago, but life (marching band) has taken over. Nevertheless, here we are, 2 football games later, that we won I might add, and yes... more insane tan lines.
Yes..my arm is still hurting.

On a serious note, marching band at Baylor is probably one of the best things that could have possibly happened to Caitlin and I. The hard work and seemingly endless repetition, hours, and sweat put in during the week are worth the 5-8 minutes we get to perform during halftime. There is no way to explain the feeling lining up, getting ready to "Braveheart" run onto the field. Yes, we do yell "For Frodo" or "For Narnia". Every.Time.
Apart from the pretty cool shows we are able to perform (here), the people are my absolute favorite. If I haven't mentioned this before, I march Cymbals with the Drumline and I can honestly say, they are some of the best friends I have ever made. Each person has their own personality and come from all different walks of life. I never thought that I would meet people who freak out over Lord of the Rings as much as we do, who face the same struggles we face, and who are more comfortable in their own skin than any group of people I have ever met. So here's to you Baylor Drumline, thanks for making college spectacular so far.

Now, Caitlin pretty much covered the fashion aspect of our time at Baylor so far, so I figured I would give ya'll a glimpse into what the Marching Band REALLY does 'behind the scenes', if you will.

It's somewhat different for Drumline than it is for the rest of the Band on game day. The band usually arrives about 4 hours before kickoff, and the drum line an hour before that, so 6pm game = 2pm call time. Weekends are usually spent this way, but hey! Gotta love it.

We usually spend the next 2 hours rehearsing in the stadium, and let me tell you that it gets HOT.We should be used to the Texas heat by now, right? WRONG. Practicing in the middle of the day, on AstroTurf that makes you feel like you are walking through Mordor is not pleasant.

Next on the list is much less demanding. As soon as rehearsal ends, we run up the ramps to play for what Baylor calls "The March of the Bears". Basically it's the band and fans forming a passage for the football players to walk through on their way to the stadium. We play some diddies and tunes and whatnot, and have a grand time.

After we play and dance our hearts out, we have dinner next. One thing that we can always count on are SANDWICHES, or the occasional BBQ or whatever they surprise us with.

After dinner, guess what happens? Another performance! That's one thing you can always count on is the band playing. If you missed us the first time, we will definitely play again...and again. This particular performance is called "Tailgate", where we go and....play for the Tailgaters for about 10-15 minutes.

And finally...SHOWTIME (kind of). This is when we go down the ramps and get ready for pre- game! Pre- game we do every week without fail, kind of to let everyone know that yes, we are Baylor and this is our fight song.

After this happens, we make our way into the stands for a splendid time of friendly badgering towards the opposing team, nonstop playing, and anticipation for halftime. Every week the show is different, so there are all sorts of things that have to be memorized.

Next comes THE SHOW. Pretty self explanatory.

The last half of the game is spent cheering (and hopefully winning). After the game ends, we load up the gear, and head to campus. If the game starts at 6, we will be snug in our beds by 12:30am(give or take...but mostly give).

So there you have it. That is what we do. Oh, and we also get some pretty fabulous perks like free food, Nike gear, getting to meet the players (like RGIII), and Bowl trips.

If you have any interest at all in Band, don't hesitate to go right on up and ask questions.
Thanks for reading!

p.s Oh, and to any of the Baylor Colorguard members reading this, Catilin loves you.

She is Dressed to Kill

Well hello there,

It sure has been a while since you have received any sort of updates from Jessica and I, and I would like to apologize for that. That was quite rude of us, but we are back now and we promise to try our best to update regularly for you.

Now then! Staying true to the beauty aspect of the blog, I've documented some of our outfits over the past couple days to share with you all. So without further ado,

First Day:
Here we have a beautiful Jessica in her natural habitat.
You can never go wrong with red lips and lace.
Sometimes less is more, please remember that lovelies. A bright lip and natural eyes can go a long way.
Beautiful detailing.

Top: H&M// Jeans: Target// Sandals: Target// Lipstick: NYC
Sock buns are probably one of my most favourite things ever. They are so classy and so easy.
Red + Black= Classic
Top: Stolen from Jessica's Closet (Originally Forever21)// Skirt: Thrifted (Originally Forever 21)//Flats: Old Navy

A Day at Church:

Sadly we do not have many pictures of Jessica's outfit from that day, but let it be noted that she looked fabulous.
Dresses: Forever21// Flats: Urban Outfitters// Jessica's Necklace: Target
A Particularly Fabulous Day for Me:
All of the photographs were taken by one of my brilliant best friends and fellow blogger Grace Dalton. You can check out her blog  here .

I adore the bow-like collar of this top.
I always feel like I stepped fresh out of the 70's when I wear this shirt, and I LOVE it.

Another sock bun, told you I loved them.
Top: Lavo (Cost a pretty penny)// Skirt: Forever21// Heels: Thrifted//Lipstain: Maybelline New York Super Stay 24 Color- Everlasting Wine
Taking a Break to Let My Nerd Flag Fly:
I went as a light-saber wielding Batman for Band Super Hero day.
Jessica's finger wanted to be in the photo too. Because of my dark red lips, sultry eyes, and long braid I decided I was the offspring of Cat Woman and Batman.

I was given this flippin' awesome Red Ranger mask as a secret guard buddy gift, and I cannot express how happy I was upon receiving it.
Just killing Hale while Hillary looks on in disbelief, or picks her nose... not sure which.
All of these items can be found at the store of awesomeness where only awesome people shop because it is awesome.

The Comfy Casual, Yet Work Friendly Look:
Sorry selfies were the best I could manage today.
A storm came through last night and it made the morning air chill, so I jumped on that like white on rice and put a sweater on. SWEATER WEATHER HERE I COME.
I opted for natural makeup and big waves today. Oh and a smile.
"Your clothes may be Beau Brummelly... But Brother, you're never fully dressed without a smile."- Annie
Mint, Navy, and Red makes up a huge majority of my wardrobe. It's a fabulous combination, especially for the transition from summer to fall.

Top: Old Navy CLEARANCE ($3- I was proud)// Jeans: Forever21// Flats: Old Navy// Smile: Genuine and One-of-a-Kind.

PHEW!
That took a while, sorry about that. The future posts will be a bit more focused because they will not be covering two weeks worth of material.
We would love to see your style and what your rocked the first couple weeks of school. Leave a link to your blog in the comments, or email either of us with your pictures!

Stay Golden,

Caitlin.
