Fly Friday: Let's Go On An Adventure!

'Playing' piano with a dear friend.

Top: Old Navy
Coat: Target
Jeans: Forever 21
Scarf: Grae Apparel
Socks/Boots: Payless
Bracelet: Jewelmint
Perfect Hemp Hot Chocolate: Dichotomy

Hello there and Happy Friday to you all.

It is going to be a rainy weekend for Waco and I want nothing more than to close the blinds and do nothing. Alas, I have business to attend to all weekend. On the opposite end of the spectrum I just want to get away and go experience new and exciting things. I've been couped up in Waco for a little too long and I think a good road trip is looooong overdue. Also camping. I need to go camping. It was one of my favourite activities as a smallish child, but it's been years since I've gone on a proper camping trip and it is killing me you guys. There is just something so wonderful about escaping into the woods for a night or a weekend to just forget about everything that is happening in our bustling society.

That being said I will not spend much time with words today.

Just get out (or stay in) and do something for yourself. I think we forget about ourselves a bit too much, and that my friends is a travesty. If you're in Waco and you're up for something a little different then head on over to Dichotomy Coffee & Spirits and give their Hemp Hot Chocolate a try. It is quite strong, but it is by far one of my favourite drinks to settle down with.

That's all for today. Take advantage of the time you have, and go have some fun. Until next time.

You Do You
(Stay Golden),

xxCaitlin.

Fly Friday: Seeing Plaid

Photos by the lovely Taylor at TaylorAnn Photography.

Top/Coat/Scarf/Jeans: Old Navy
Booties: Forever 21
Nail Polish: Julep in Lupita

Hello there and Happy Friday!

Waco has gotten obnoxiously cold these past couple of days. Don't get me wrong, it is nice to see colder weather, but a gradual transition would have been nice. I went from sweating on Monday to wanting to cry on Wednesday because it was so cold. Sheesh.

HOWEVER, this means that I can officially break out my awesome vintage cape I bought over the summer. I've been dying to wear it and now I finally have the chance. I cannot wait to share it with you all.

I'm honestly not sure what to say about this outfit besides the fact that I should be Old Navy's poster child. What I can tell you is that I am really really starting to fall in love with primarily achromatic color schemed outfits with teeny pops of colour. After all a fall without some colour is no fall at all.
It's hard to go wrong with grey, so grab some grey skinny's and get to work!

Seriously though if you don't have some grey skinny's I would highly recommend you invest. They are life changing.

I'm going to jump tracks now and talk about some of my favourite seasonal bits since it is finally cold outside.

-Peppermint Hot Chocolate: I'll take 400 gallons please.
-Coats: If only I could afford all of the beautiful ones gracing stores nowadays.
-Eating healthy: HA!
-The way everything acquires a grey-ish tint in the winter
-Huddling together with my guard family under blankets: Yes, that is nearly 16 people under there...

-Cozy socks: I just got a brand new pair from Payless that I am lovin'.
Last but certainly not least
-Holiday Cheer: This stuff is real y'all. People are just so happy and I love it.

That is it for today! Thanks for stopping by. I will see you all on Tuesday. Until then my friends.

Stay Golden,

xxCaitlin

Strikes My Fancy #12

Hello all! Welcome to this week's Strikes My Fancy post. I've been on a LotR kick lately and it shows, but there is also plenty of good music, pretty clothes, and neat prints involved. Enjoy.

1. Birdy- Terrible Love
One time my closest friend gave me this song saying that it reminded her of me. This song does have a way of striking me to the core with its brilliance. I haven't listened to it in quite some time, but even now its relevance is startling. The Alice references do indeed help me relate to it more, but nevertheless it is beautiful and I hope it can move you in some way as well. Enjoy my friends.

2. This may be one of the best mugs in existence.

3. I'm just going to keep the Lord of the Rings stuff coming. This list of suggested hashtags is golden. #Nazfool

4. I've had a weird obsession with the skeletal system lately.

5. Neil deGrasse Tyson just gets me.

6.Hero-glyphics. So much yes.

7. This explains so much. The plot lines do line up incredibly well...

8. Waco teased me this past weekend with mornings/evenings in the low 60s. Now I just want to wear scarves and cozy sweaters all day every day.

9. I'm starting to learn the meaning of this. I may be a horrible at it, but it brings about an unparalleled joy.

10. I love everything about this print.

That is all for this week's post. Thanks for stopping by! Until next time my friends.

Stay Golden,

xxCaitlin.

Fly Fridays: Cornfields

Top: Forever 21 (similar here and here)
Skirt: Target (similar here and here)
Awesome teeny harmonica necklacebracelet, and ring: Jewelmint

Happy Friday everyone!

Bloggers that don't live in Texas are talking about days in the 60 degree temperature range and fall weather, and I'm over here getting drenched in sweat every time I walk to class. Normally I would find this to be very unfair and I would express my longing for days such as the ones Ohio is currently experiencing, but that is not the case today.

Just last week I gushed about fall and though I am still trying to get Texas to get with the program by dressing for the season, I cannot help but love the summer days that Texas is still providing for me. My dear friend Grace over at My Spare Oom brought up a wonderful point the other day about the changing of seasons, both physically and in life. It is a wonderful post and I highly suggest you give it a look.

Obviously a large part of me is still reaching for fall though. I just wanna wear earthy colour forever and ever. The rust colour of this top just makes my heart melt. I love it and I actually own this top in two different colours. Why? Because it is perfect. The phrase 'if you love it, buy it in every colour' is so true.
Fun fact about this skirt. It used to be a dress that Jessica handed down to me, however it didn't quite fit in the top area *ahem* so I decided to fix it up a bit. I separated the skirt part of the dress from the top to create two separate pieces; a crop top and a skirt. I've done this with another dress of mine, and you can see the top here.

I absolutely loved the way it turned out and for a while I had the urge to cut up all my dresses. I would not recommend doing that by the way. I didn't even sew this one to make it fit. I simply left the edges raw, grabbed a sash from another dress and tied it around my waist. It was a bit of a hassle to constantly make sure that my skirt was still sitting well, but I didn't mind too much.

Now, let's talk about my necklace. The baby harmonica ACTUALLY PLAYS. It takes all of my willpower to keep it away from my face every time I wear it. I should note that I cannot play the harmonica by any means, especially this baby one, but boy is it sure fun to pretend. It is definitely one of my favourite Jewelmint purchases ever. It is cute and it serves a purpose of some sort; in this case entertainment.

Anyways, that is it for today my friends. Thanks so much for stopping by to read this week's Fly Friday post. See y'all around!

Stay Golden,

xxCaitlin.

Fly Fridays: Dallas Lovin'

My not so little, little booger and I.
Top/ Shorts/ Necklace/ Sandals: Old Navy
Ring: Jewelmint
Bag: Gap. Similar here
Belt: Lavo
Glasses: Warby Parker

Okay, first and fore most let me start off by apologizing for my almost unflattering windblown look in these pictures. Taylor and I had been WALKING all over downtown Dallas for a good 3 hours by this point. Just a heads up, never ever wear flip-flops for that amount of walking. My feet were disgusting and both of us were a hot mess by the time we took the pictures. Moving on.

It really was an incredible day though. Taylor and I took loads of photos, ate at a fantastic vegan restaurant in Dallas called Spiral Diner, and saw some superb architecture (hence the above picture collage). Besides the flip-flops this was the perfect outfit for running around Dallas in the Texas heat. It was lightweight and comfortable which is a must when the temperatures start rising.

I'm normally not one for shorts but when I found these little beauties I had to give them a try. The "Boyfriend" cut does wonders everyone. Also, just look at that print! I love em. This top is my go-to top for just about everything... it's bad. You can bet your money on the fact that you will see it again in future posts. The lace detailing on the shoulder adds a bit of interest to any outfit. I have probably 8 or 9 outfits built around this shirt alone. Another one of my summer go-to's is this pastel colour-blocked tote from Gap. I use it nearly every day, even if it doesn't match with my outfit. *gasp*

Side note: I really should be considered as Old Navy's poster child.

The instagram picture is from when my kid brother, Patrick, and I were in San Antonio with my friend Hale. I apparently wear this outfit a lot when I travel! I stick to what I said earlier, nothing beats breezy and comfortable in a Texas summer.

Thanks for tuning in to this week's Fly Friday post. Until next time!

Stay Golden,

xxCaitlin.

Well...

It sure has been a while since you guys have heard anything that I have to say, and I am truly sorry about that. It's been eventful to say the least around here and I honestly put blogging on the back burner. I know, I know, shame on me. I'm back now though, and I won't be disappearing like that again. Thanks to those of you that stuck around during my little holiday.

Anywho, I just wanted to say hello. I found myself with a little extra time on my hands today and I am just sitting here enjoying -as much as one can- this obnoxious weather that Waco is currently witnessing. I've got a big cup of hot chocolate and an oddly positive/ motivated outlook today, and let me tell you guys; it does wonders. Seriously though, I am so ready for today and I have no idea why... it is a funny, yet refreshing feeling.

HA! It's funny how quickly things change. I wrote the first half of this post as I was waiting for my 9:30 class to start, but now its the end of my school day and my outlook isn't near as cheery. To those of you that know me personally, you know how snarky and sarcastic I am...well believe it or not that part of me is amplified up in that things that sits between my oddly large ears. I provide little monologues to keep myself entertained as I walk and I make up scenarios for, and often mock the people that I pass. I find it to be quite amusing, and this afternoon it was in full swing and I was not holding my thoughts back one bit.

The weather had quickly been deteriorating all day; getting worse as each minute ticked by. I got off work around three and after awkwardly flinging my body into the ginormous brass doors of the lovely Armstrong Browning Library in order to open them, I stepped outside and was greeted with rain. Excuse me, I meant something more along the lines of little icy bullets threatening to end my life with every step I took after parting my workplace... or at least that is what it felt like anyways.

Now I know people living up North or somewhere where snow is an actual thing and temperatures of 32 and below are normal for you are probably laughing and wishing you could experience this. Seeing as how I am not used to weird ice rains of death though, I found this to be a particularly miserable experience.

Moving on. I instinctively reached for my hood to pull it up over my head to provide some sort of protection from the wanna be snow and realized I had no hood. TWO JACKETS ON AND I HAD NO STINKIN' HOOD. So I found myself in one of those half walk/ half run kind of things where you look as if you are trying frolic, unsuccessfully, through some field of pretty daisies, stumbling all the while. My hands were balled up into fists that I shoved into my pockets the moment I started my trek, and with the amount of force that I was using to keep them there, I was sure they would  punch out the bottom of my pockets.

The rain, or sleet... or whatever it was stung like crazy, and to top it off it was coming down in a side-ways manner due to the heavy gusts of wind that kept threatening to knock me over as I ran. And with my face being completely exposed to these horrendous elements, I'm pretty sure I got a brain freeze. Not even joking. It felt like I had been munching on ice cream for a couple minutes straight. By the time I got to where I was heading I had no feeling left in my face and I was fairly soaked, that was not a pleasant feeling.

I had been talking to myself this entire time too; cursing the weather and commenting on the people that looked as if they were suffering just as much, or more than I was. Honestly, I was cracking myself up, like it was bad guys. I'm just going to go ahead and say that it was my way of keeping my mind off the cold to prevent myself from looking like THAT person that laughs hysterically at their own jokes.

Now I have to throw in a little disclaimer. This post was written on Thursday AND earlier I stated "my outlook isn't near as cheery," but by that I didn't mean that I wasn't happy because I was still in a surprisingly good mood. I meant it more as in I got a billion times sassier and a little bit more offensive. In other words, I was my normal self, but that positive mood that I had this morning, thankfully stuck with me throughout the day. To prove that here is some pictures of  kitties! Looky at how cute they are.

I wear a bow tie now... bow ties are cool.

SO MUCH EXPRESSION.

Very well then. Thanks for tuning in for my rant on Waco weather. Until next time!

Stay classy Sandy Eggo,

xx Caitlin.
